About the Position:
This position is designed to bring history to life for visiting school groups by reenacting a late 19th century school day at the Historic Cahill School and teaching them the history of the Historic 1879 Minnehaha Grange Hall. Playing the role of a late 19th century schoolteacher, the interpreter teaches students local history, leads them in themed games and activities, and fosters history learning skills among visiting students.
Responsibilities:
To lead school field trips at the Historic Cahill School and Historic 1879 Minnehaha Grange Hall
To explain local history in a way that’s understandable for a younger audience
To lead history themed games and activities
To further develop field trip curriculum to facilitate history learning
To oversee and maintain the historic sites
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma
Interest in local history, museum studies, education, or historical reenactment
Experience working with elementary-aged children preferred
Comfort with public speaking
Ideal Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in History, Art History, Museum Studies, Education or other related field
Experience in historical reenactment or museum work
Some working knowledge of Minnesota history
Some knowledge of classroom management techniques
