Happy to be at the Art Fair, volunteers Kathleen Wetherall, Barby Bergan and Barb Peer staffed our table at a past event. If you want great art, go to the Edina Art Fair this weekend. If you want Edina history merchandise, visit our museum gift shop.
A museum visitor asked why we we're not at the Edina Art Fair this year.

For nearly all of the first 40 years of the 45-year-old community art fest, we sold books and ornaments, posters and t-shirts in a covered walkway behind Belleson's.

It was fun. We saw a lot of people. We even sold a few items.

But we didn't sell nearly enough to cover three days' worth of time, even free volunteer time.

Don't get me wrong. We love the Edina Art Fair. We love the artists who create beautiful paintings, cool jewelry and interesting pottery. We love the food and the drink, and even the crowds. But people go to the Edina Art Fair looking for paintings, jewelry and pottery. They don't go to buy items related to Edina history -- in fact, the vast majority of Art Fair shoppers have no Edina connection at all and would never buy one of our products at any price. (Their loss, right?)

So, yes, the Edina Historical Society will not have a table at this year's Edina Art Fair. But I will definitely be there - shopping for paintings, jewelry and pottery just like everyone else.
